El tema de hoy será sobre deportes populares, tanto como por índice de audiencia o como por popularidad entre la gente finlandesa.
Aunque el hockey sobre hielo no es el deporte del país, el público que recibe es de lejos mucho mayor que cualquier otro deporte emitido en televisión. La selección de hockey sobre hielo de Finlandia o "Leijonat" ("Los Leones" en finlandés), ésta se encuentra incluida entre los "siete grandes" de la IIHF Federación Internacional de Hockey sobre Hielo (Canadá, la República Checa, Rusia, Suecia, EE.UU y Finlandia, por supuesto), con dos medallas de plata y cuatro de bronce. De Helsinki se tienen dos grandes equipos "Jokerit" e "HIFK" (tuve la oportunidad de ver uno de sus partidos en la semana donde estuvieron los otros estudiantes de Erasmus). Jokerit ha conseguido más en cuanto a premios, pero HIFK no se queda atrás, su rivalidad terminó cuando Jokerit se pasó a la liga rusa.
Hablando ahora de floorball (una especie de hockey sobre suelo normal) en Finlandia, la Federación Finlandesa de Floorball (o Suomen Salibandyliitto en finlandés) fue fundada en 1985 y el deporte en general agrada a la población finlandesa. Lovisa högstadium tiene su propio equipo "Lovisa Tor", el cual ha llegado a competir en torneos fuera de Finlandia, como Storvreta Cup en Suecia. Aunque sólo he asistido a dos partidos del equipo mayor (con el padre de la familia de acogida).

Although ice hockey is not the national sport, the audience that it has is by far much more well-liked than any other broadcast sport. Finland men's national ice hockey team or Leijonat («The Lions» in Finnish) is in the so-called group "Big Six" although it is unofficial, it joins the six strongest men's ice hockey nations (Canada, the Czech Republic, Russia, Sweden, the USA and Finland, of course), having two silver medals and four bronze ones. There are two big teams "Jokerit" and "HIFK" (I had the opportunity to go to one of their
matches when the one-week exchange students were here). Jokerit has achieved more in regards to prizes, yet HIFK is no mean feat; their rivalry came to an end when Jokerit joined the Russian league.
Now talking about floorball in Finland, the Finnish Floorball Federation was founded in 1985 and in general Finnish people are keen on it. Lovisa högstadium has its own team "Lovisa Tor", which has even competed in tournaments outside Finland, like Storvreta Cup in Sweden.
